What is cannabis oil?

Cannabis oil is a 100% natural oil with unique medicinal properties. It is made from the cannabis plant and is the strongest oil made from this plant. Cannabis oil is also called hash oil, cannabis oil or THC oil. 

The main ingredient of cannabis oil is THC (full name Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol). A good cannabis oil contains about 15 to 20% of this stuff. THC is a psychoactive substance that gives marijuana the well-known mind-altering effect. What is less known is that THC also has powerful medicinal properties. Cannabis oil is generally not used to get stoned. Oil containing THC is mainly used to benefit from the therapeutic effects of cannabis. 

Difference between CBD oil and cannabis oil

There is quite a bit of confusion surrounding the effects of cannabis oil and cannabis oil with CBD. As discussed above, cannabis oil is also called cannabis oil. That's probably where the misunderstanding lies. Both oils are made by adding a cannabis extraction to cannabis oil. CBD oil is made from cannabis oil with CBD. CBD (like THC) is a cannabinoid that comes from the cannabis plant. 

Unlike THC, CBD has no mind-altering effect. CBD is also usually obtained from (fully) legal hemp cultivation. Cannabis oil is made from the cannabis plant and has a stronger effect than CBD oil. Another big difference is that CBD oil can be legally sold in the Netherlands (provided it does not contain more than 0.2% THC). Cannabis oil sometimes also contains CBD, but due to the higher percentage of THC, it is only legally available in the Netherlands with a doctor's prescription.

What does cannabis oil help with? Both CBD oil and cannabis oil are known for their beneficial effects and the positive effects they can have on both body and mind. Cannabis oil is the most effective form of medicinal cannabis and is known for the powerful positive effect it can have on serious conditions. 

Cannabis oil THC effect

We now know what cannabis oil is, but how does cannabis oil actually work? To understand this, it's time to introduce you to the endocannabinoid system, a network of protein receptors (cannabinoid receptors) found naturally in our bodies. This body's own system is responsible for controlling a number of crucial bodily functions, such as our immune system, our digestion, repair of tissue damage and the sleep-wake rhythm.

This endocannabinoid system works through cannabinoid receptors, which in turn are activated when cannabinoids attach to them. In 1988 it was discovered that THC can bind to these receptors and in this way influence all kinds of processes. 

The healing effect of cannabis oil shows how beautifully nature can work. THC boosts the effect of anandamide (a neurotransmitter) in our body and ensures that cells can communicate better with each other. This allows the processes controlled by the endocannabinoid system to run more smoothly and your body's self-healing capacity is supported.

Cannabis oil is known for its many benefits, but what do you use cannabis oil for? The answer to that is not so clear. The healing effect of cannabis oil can be used for all kinds of (serious) conditions. As we said, THC interacts with our body's own systems, meaning that an entire book could be written in response to the question 'what do you use cannabis oil for?' What does cannabis oil help with? In general, we can say that there are many positive stories about the healing effect of cannabis oil on:

How long does it take for cannabis oil to work?

When you buy cannabis oil, it does not work the same for everyone, so it may take longer for some people to notice the effects of cannabis oil. In general, we can say that the effects of cannabis oil are noticeable within a few minutes and usually last about 4 to 5 hours. For some, the effect lasts up to 24 hours.

It is difficult to say how long it takes for cannabis oil to cure an ailment or relieve the symptoms of an ailment. This depends on the condition you want to treat and is also different for every body. It also depends on the dosage and how the cannabis oil is used. 

How do you use cannabis oil? And how long can you store cannabis oil?

 If you buy cannabis oil, you take it orally (just like CBD 'cannabis oil' drops). A drop is placed under the tongue but is not swallowed. The active substances are absorbed by your oral mucosa. It is best to start with one drop. You will usually notice an effect within a few hours. Is there no effect? Then you can build up from day to day until the desired effect is achieved. 

You can store your purchased cannabis oil for a while, so build up slowly. There is often a best before date on the bottle. As a rule, you can still use the bottle for a few months afterwards. We mentioned earlier that cannabis oil is only legally available in the Netherlands with a doctor's prescription. The use of the oil is subject to the tolerance policy in the Netherlands.
